Locksmith Sengkang
Sengkang is a planning area as well as a residential town situated in the Northeastern area of Singapore. Sengkang borders Seletar as well as Punggol in the northern area, Pasir Ris and Paya Lebar from the eastern region, Hougang and Serangoon from its southern region. Sengkang neighbors Yishun and Ang Mo Kio from its western region. The region was traditionally used as a fishing area. Sengkang has experienced massive growth under the management of the Housing and Development Board (HDB). The name Sengkang originates from the name prosperous harbor in Chinese.
The name has a connection with a road named Lorong Sengkang which heads to Lorong Buangkok. Sengkang was traditionally named Kangkar which translates to foot of the port. This was because the area had a fishing port situated along Sungei Serangoon.
In the year 1999, an organizing board led by Dr Michael Lim was formed. Dr Michael was a Member of Parliament that time. The committee was formed to sphere- head projects aimed at developing the region further. Acting on the views from residents’ feedback, the board managed to launch major projects. This saw the communities start receiving better services by the year 2000. The board worked closely with numerous administrations to set up more mini-shops as well as shopping malls not forgetting childcare centers in this town. In the mid-20th century, Sengkang had become a home to rubber, pepper, and pineapple plantations. With the nearest community estate being Punggol Rural Centre, Sengkang was deserted until the year 1994. During this period, a city design board comprising of ten people from HDB began plans to set up the city. Sengkang is divided into distinct subzones that were designed to house up to 95,000 housing units. Sengkang has so far accumulated much growth and the urbanization dream has been actualized.
