Locksmith River Valley
River valley is a region based in Singerpore. The region has a history that dates back in the 1940s. The name river valley originates from the geographical setup of the region. Two river valleys existed which ran on both sides of singerpore River. The river itself appeared like a valley that linked Fort Canning Hill and Pear’s Hill. Fort canning hill is squarely located to the north of the valley while pearl’s hill is to the south side of the valley. At the banks of the river, there lays two roads on each side which were both named as River valley road. The two roads were later named differently where one retained the name River valley road as the other one changed to Havelock road.
The two roads are still known as such today. Among major attraction sites in Singapore, River valley is on top of the list. Wealthy Europeans as well as Chinese traders have recently moved to this region due to its beautiful sceneries. Other reasons as to why the traders considered moving to this region was to move away from other congested areas. Following this exodus, the tycoons built modern houses in the area back in the 1830s.
Dr. Thomas Oxley was one of the first inhabitants to relocate to the River valley region. This saw him buy a land where he built Killiney estate. He bought the land from a company known as East India. With the estate in place, the road around it was given the name Oxley road. The Dr. later sold out the land pieces. Other merchants who moved in the region are the straits Chinese. They built cottages in the region making it grow and more attractive. Tan Jiak Kim was one of the Chinese. The year 1860 saw Mr. Tan built a mansion for himself. Tan named the mansion as Panglima prang. He facilitated the construction of a road which was later named after him. River valley is home for a good number of the richest businessmen in Singapore. It hosts both locals and foreigners.
